Just like the American dream story, the success of Broadway PizzaŽ can be traced to a humble beginning.
In 1953, an Italian named John Spallacci, born in Gorviano Valli Italy, moved to Minneapolis and introduced his very special pizza recipe to the Twin Cities area.
It was in 1961 that Eddie Peck purchased the operation from Spallacci and with the help of his wife Dorothy and mother Mamie, continued with the pizza tradition from his neighborhood restaurant and bar at 253 W. Broadway in north Minneapolis. While Eddie made the sausage from scratch, Mamie spent her mornings preparing her special sauces and doughs for the delicious homemade pizza. Word quickly got around that Eddie and his family were making the best pizza in town. Soon it was standing room only at the broadway.
The neighborhood was good to the business and when the construction of I-94 created the need to move in 1975, Eddie wanted to stay close to the neighbors who had helped him build his business. Eddie chose a railroad station theme and name for his new Broadway PizzaŽ restaurant because of the importance of railroad transportation to the growth of north Minneapolis. In fact, he purchased his new site at the intersection of Broadway and West River Road, from Iron Horse Development, located in the heart of railroad activity. Even today, Soo Line and Burlington Northern tracks travel across the property of our landmark restaurant overlooking the Mississippi River, just blocks from the original location.
Over the years, Eddie's famous thin-crust pizza has earned countless accolades from the media. And a loyal following from the public.
Today Broadway PizzaŽ is a growing collection of neighborhood restaurants united in our dedication to providing our customers with superior food and service. We sincerely hope you enjoy your visit to Broadway PizzaŽ and come back to see us soon.
Broadway PizzaŽ thanks you, our customers, for over 50 years of great dining and fun!
